The Treasury alerts public to fraudulent SMS messages
********************************************
The Treasury alerts members of the public to fraudulent SMS messages purportedly issued by the Treasury, which ask recipients to pay a fixed penalty offence via a hyperlink provided.
The Treasury has no connection with the fraudulent SMS messages and has reported the case to the Police for further investigation. Members of the public are reminded that the Treasury will not send SMS messages to ask recipients to settle payments via hyperlinks.
The Hong Kong Police Force has officially launched the digitalisation of Traffic Fixed Penalty Notices (penalty tickets) (“FPNs”) since 15 June 2025, in which the electronic penalty tickets are sent via verified SMS or email according to the verified e-contact means. All SMS tickets are issued under the SMS sender name ″#HKPF-eTT″. Any other sender names are considered fake. All SMS or email tickets do not contain any hyperlinks.
